Pastor Eduard Flemming (1844-1927) war 80 Jahre alt, als er die zweijährige Arbeit an seinen  Erinnerungen begann - er schrieb den gesamten Text mit der Hand auf Matrizen, die sein Schwiegersohn dann vervielfältigte und binden ließ - eine gewaltige Fleißarbeit, die heute aber nicht jeder mehr entziffern kann. Es gab bereits eine auf Schreibmaschine getippte Abschrift, die ich für meinen jetzigen Zweck mit dem Original verglichen habe, um Eduards Text möglichst exakt zu präsentieren - inklusive seiner orthografischen Eigenheiten, die das Verständnis aber nicht beeinträchtigen.
Ein langes Leben als Pastor im Dienst kleiner Dorfgemeinden und in Sorge um seine zehn Kinder, die er mit seiner resoluten Frau Emmy aufzog, bis sie ausflogen, sich über ganz Deutschland verteilten und sogar in Los Angeles und Guatemala landeten. (Andreas Kern)
